God often does things not according to our plans, but always according to His plan. Sometimes people will be angry with us over what we say and they will be angry by what we don’t say. What is the purpose of prayer? It is about communion with God. When we pray we are not to pray like the pagans who think they will be heard by their many words. The purpose of fasting is so that we can free up time so that we can spend time with God. We need to recognize what God is doing. God is often up to things that don’t fit within our traditions. When we spend time with Jesus, we ought to be rejoicing. We cannot take a little bit of something new and patch it onto something old. We will make things worse. We cannot have just a little bit of Jesus. The old traditions in the days of Jesus, could not contain the new thing that God was doing. When God is at work, we need to worship Him and not our traditions. We cannot value the container more than the contents. God does not change, but we have to.
