The sermon text for this coming Lord's Day is Acts 24:24-25. From this text, I'll be specifically addressing the challenge of self-control.
Here are some questions to help prepare for this sermon.
1. Notice that Paul speaks to Felix about "self-control." How do you define self-control? What relationship does self-control have with righteousness and the coming judgment (vs 25). Why was Felix so alarmed by Paul's statements?
2. If you are unfamiliar with Pelagianism, please review the Wikipedia article and/or other resources for familiarizing yourself with this ancient heresy.
3. How is self-control produced in the life of Christians? (Gal 5:23; 1 Cor 9:24-27; Titus 2:12) Why is it so difficult to attain and maintain?
4. Can you think of Biblical examples of people who did or did not exercise self-control? How did this effect their life?
5. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? "Christian liberties cannot exist where self-control is lacking." Explain you agreement or disagreement.
