The writer of Hebrews tells us, 'For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart' (4:12). And yet, how many Christians treat it as such? How many use God's authoritative Word as a living, active tool in their daily lives? Clearly, we lack confidence in the absolute efficacy of the Word in our lives; worse, we deny the infinite power of the Godhead unleashed in our lives when we neglect to apply the eternal truths found in Scripture.
One writer referred to the Word of God as 'not a sounding but a piercing word, not pronounceable by the tongue but efficacious in the mind, not sensible to the ear but fascinating to the affection.' The Word of God shapes thoughts, forms affections and literally sets us moving, on course in our lives. Jonathan Edwards informs us that God-shaped affections informed by the Word and formed in the heart are precisely what 'set men agoing in the world.' The Word virtually drives us. Listen and arm yourself with the provision God has made available to you in His all-sufficient Word.
