When God tells us to live with courage and confidence in this world, He graciously provides the means for us to do so. “… be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus…” 2 Timothy 2:1 (NKJV) Paul’s charge to Timothy was not a pep talk. It would not help him to simply be told: “Be brave,” or “be confident.” Timothy’s only hope for overcoming his fear, anxiety and discouragement was to remain vitally connected to Jesus. The same is true for us. When the Christian life is attempted in our strength, according to our own understanding, we’re destined for frustration and failure. We cannot live the Christian life outside the sphere of God’s gracious enablement. In this sermon we'll begin our study of 2 Timothy with, “Strong in Grace.”
