There is a crisis of hope in the world right now. The cry God hears from heaven is the cry of hopelessness. Hope is vital to human life; to live without hope is to live in fear and dread and despair. To have no hope is to look forward and see nothing but evil and darkness and suffering and pain and death. The trouble with most people is that their hope does not reach beyond this earthly life. The devil uses this blindness to keep people in his snare by continually offering earthly hope for things to be better in this life here and now. Hope is the theme of God's Word; it is the theme of God's message to man and the Gospel of Christ. We lay hold on this hope by making God "our" God; "MY God." No matter how hard the trial, how heavy the burden, how bitter the loss, the one whose hope is in God is lashed to mast of the ship and is not going overboard.
