Peter draws his letter to a close, making his final appeal to Christians facing both the blessings of Christ kingdom and the difficulties of life in this present, evil age. While he exhorts the church to live in full dependance on the God who mightily cares for them, he would not have Christ's sheep be unaware of the very real predator seeking to devour them. For that reason, Peter urges a vigilance that never sleeps. The Satan is a terrible and cunning foe, who can only be resisted by a healthy orthodoxy and orthopraxy (doctrine and life). This spiritual warfare is real, yet the individual Christian is not alone, for all in Christ's church experience the same tribulation and await the same glory. Let us be wholly dependent on our gracious God, trusting him to vanquish all his and our true enemies, confidently awaiting the full arrival of his perfect and eternal kingdom of righteousness!
