The Apostle Paul in all his epistles exalted Christ. In this epistle he is especially keen to do so. He speaks of himself as an Apostle of Christ. He addresses the Colossian brethren as saints and faithful brethren in Christ, and gives them an apostolic blessing of Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He gives thanks to God the father of our Lord Jesus Christ and for their faith in the Christ Jesus. Later on he devotes several verses in this chapter describing as being the creator of all things, which had special relevance to one of the errors he had to deal with, namely, their gnostic beliefs that matter was evil and the God who created matter was evil. I will deal with that aspect when we come to study verses that deal with this.
