These boys were raised in Jerusalem, which is a picture of the church, where they were raised around God's people, His word, His righteousness, and the things of God. The best thing we can do for our kids is to raise them in the house of God. The reason being that the world is coming hard for them, pictured here as Babylon. God put the church in the world, and while we are not of the world the church is compromising with the world. We have allowed the world to come into the church. Raised right Christians can stand and say I might be in the world but I'm not of the world, just like these young men did. Our God is able to take care of us, but what if He doesn't do as we expect Him too? Will we still trust Him to still be God? These young men had no conditions on God they just simply said 'But if not'. See, a 'But if not' Christian is faithful. The king had spotted these boys as faithful early on back in Jerusalem. The world will notice faithfulness even faithfulness toward God. If we never learn to be faithful to God in church we will never be faithful in the world. 'But if not' Christians are favored. They gather together in the name of Jesus where He is in the midst. They know the favor of God comes to Christians who are faithful followers. And a 'But if not' Christian is a feared Christian. These folks got the power of God on them. And Satan is afraid of Christians who don't use themselves but rather use the power of God.
