Take Care, Lest There Be In You An Evil, Unbelieving Heart!
Main Idea: Take care lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart!
‚ÄĘ As evidenced in Exodus & Numbers in ‚Äúthe rebellion‚ÄĚ ÔÉě Sins of God‚Äôs people ÔɆ Quarreling: Rephidim/Massah/Meribah) (Ex 17) ÔɆ Rebellion at Kadesh (Num 13-14) ÔɆ Quarrelling: Meribah (Num 20) ÔÉě Pattern of unbelief for 40 years! ÔɆ Meribah-Kadesh -Meribah (Ex 17/Num 20) ÔɆ ‚ÄúThey shall not enter My rest!‚ÄĚ
‚ÄĘ As evidenced in Psalm 95: Worship and believing (Ps 95:1-7a)
‚ÄĘ As evidenced in Hebrews 3 ÔÉě The danger of an evil, unbelieving heart ÔÉě Take care, lest we have an evil, unbelieving heart (12a) ÔÉě Corrective action: Exhort one another daily (13) ÔÉě We are ‚Äú sharers in Christ‚ÄĚ if we persevere (14-15) ÔɆ Hearing his voice (15a) ÔɆ Not hardening our hearts (15b)
‚ÄĘ Some questions for us to ask ourselves today: ÔÉě ‚ÄúSo, who heard God‚Äôs word and rebelled?‚ÄĚ (v. 16)? Answer: ‚ÄúAll those whom Moses delivered from Egypt‚ÄĚ ÔÉě ‚ÄúWith whom was God angry for 40 years ?‚ÄĚ (v. 17) Answer: ‚ÄúThose who sinned and died in the wilderness‚ÄĚ ÔÉě ‚ÄúWhom did God swear would not enter His rest?‚ÄĚ (v. 18) Answer: Those who disobeyed‚ÄĒi.e., did not believe.‚ÄĚ
Bottom line: They were unable to enter God’s rest because of unbelief! (v. 19)
Therefore: We will be unable to enter God’s place of rest if we do not believe!
