Take Care, Lest There Be In You An Evil, Unbelieving Heart!
Main Idea: Take care lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart!
• As evidenced in Exodus & Numbers in “the rebellion” Sins of God’s people Quarreling: Rephidim/Massah/Meribah) (Ex 17) Rebellion at Kadesh (Num 13-14) Quarrelling: Meribah (Num 20) Pattern of unbelief for 40 years! Meribah-Kadesh -Meribah (Ex 17/Num 20) “They shall not enter My rest!”
• As evidenced in Psalm 95: Worship and believing (Ps 95:1-7a)
• As evidenced in Hebrews 3 The danger of an evil, unbelieving heart Take care, lest we have an evil, unbelieving heart (12a) Corrective action: Exhort one another daily (13) We are “ sharers in Christ” if we persevere (14-15) Hearing his voice (15a) Not hardening our hearts (15b)
• Some questions for us to ask ourselves today: “So, who heard God’s word and rebelled?” (v. 16)? Answer: “All those whom Moses delivered from Egypt” “With whom was God angry for 40 years ?” (v. 17) Answer: “Those who sinned and died in the wilderness” “Whom did God swear would not enter His rest?” (v. 18) Answer: Those who disobeyed—i.e., did not believe.”
Bottom line: They were unable to enter God’s rest because of unbelief! (v. 19)
Therefore: We will be unable to enter God’s place of rest if we do not believe!
