After instructing the women of the church to be quiet and moderate in relation to their adornment, Paul instructs them to be quiet and submissive in relation to their learning and teaching within the church. Women are encouraged to learn in submission to the male leadership of the church while not permitted to teach or exercise authority over a man in the church.
The foundational reasons for these qualifications and restrictions for women in this area of the church is God's order and purpose for the creation of man and woman in Genesis 2, and the example of the Fall in Genesis 3. The permanent and purposeful roles of headship and submission within marriage and the church are founded on the same ground of Genesis 2 & 3. So it is utterly important for the church to stand firm on this biblical ground, for the sake of both the church and the family. And, ultimately, for the sake of the cause and proclamation of Christ.
