An Overview of Jesus' Preparation for Ministry
Luke writes in a deliberate style, organizing his material for the benefit of his reader. We now embark on a new literary section. In this sermon, we see an overview of the preparation for Jesus' public ministry: John's preparation of a people & Jesus' preparation as the Messiah. We also identify certain motifs central to Luke's gospel: prophecy is fulfilled in history as the Lord makes for Himself a new spiritually defined people in union with the Messiah who is the 2nd Adam come to bring salvation to all men, giving them the Holy Spirit who enables them to triumph in spiritual conflict.
