Overview of the book of 1 Peter The big pictures themes we will look at today are (they will be easy to remember because of alliteration): Five Themes:
Peter tells the exiles that:
First of all they are secure in Christ because of their salvation.
Because they are in Christ they are called to be separate - from the unbelieving world.
This difference and faithfulness to Christ will inevitably lead to suffering to one degree or another in our Christian pilgrimage.
The Christian reaction is not to be one of rebellion but rather one of submission - first and foremost to God and His sovereignty but also to the those authorities that God has placed over us - even the unbelievers!
Lastly our Christian lives as exiles, the radical difference is to be a sign of our citizenship. To make God known to the world and to draw others into this Kingdom and to worship our King.
