THE BELIEVERS RESPONSIBLITY IN MARRIAGE_13 Ephesians 2:8; 5:22-33 Submission is to be prompted by one's relationship to Christ. "Her obedience to her husband is to be regarded as part of her obedience to the Lord. This duty is greater than the wife's duty. The husband must act like Christ. The wife is to act only as the church Ephesians 5:24. The husband cannot gloat over his higher rank, for he has greater duties in marriage than the wife. The husband's duty involves much sacrifice. The sacrifice Christ made for the church is the greatest sacrifice ever made. Unfortunately many husbands do little sacrificing for the wife. The fact that men love their own bodies is a promise that a husband is capable of caring adequately for his wife. Caring for her as though she were his own body will maximize his care for her. The husband-wife relationship is a portrayal of Christ and the church. Just as the church is a member of Christ in one body (He being the Head), so the wife is a member of the husband's body ("they two shall be one flesh"). This shows the intimate relationship of the wife and husband that demands the husband to love the wife. And the Bible teaches, "What … God hath [therefore] joined together, let not man put asunder." (Matthew 19:6; Mark 10:9)
