There was great rejoicing in some parts over the election of Mr. Obama as President - the crowds of his supporters were jubilant, believing that at last we will have justice, prosperity and tranquility in our nation.
No doubt the bloom will soon be off the rose - it seems that all of our elected leaders of both parties soon become profound disappointments.
Neither candidate embraced the true core values of our nation - instead, the airwaves were filled with nostrums of pragmatism. Indeed, pragmatism has become the first principle of our society.
This is why we never really solve any problems politically, and why our liberty diminishes year by year, and innocent bloodshedding abounds more and more. Nobody stands by principle first - but rather asks the question, what will work best?
So even Believers vote for the "lesser of two evils" instead of voting for the upright and principled candidate.
This shows that "democracy" has failed our country - the people are too unprincipled to elect principled, righteous leaders.
But we can rejoice in the election that really matters - an election that ensures our eternal happiness, if we have believed upon God's dear Son.
The election referred to is announced by Peter, when he proclaims the result: that almighty God has exalted our Lord Jesus to be a Prince and a Savior!
The Scripture is full of proclamations of this most important election by God. Fallen men rebel against Christ, but to no avail, for He will rule with a rod of iron!
It is Christ's death for His people that causes us to readily submit to Him. We gladly bow before the slain Lamb who redeemed us!
