Use Money to Make Friends
Money is massively prominent in the Bible, especially regarding the way Christians use it. Mature Christianity thinks carefully about the use of money. Jesus tells a parable about a dishonest manager, whom he praises--which is surprising! he is not praising him for his dishonesty though, but for his shrewdness. The reason for his praise is that unbelievers are more skilled at using their resources--regardless of their methods--to secure their futures. Christians must use the resources they have to better benefit their own futures. Christians must use material resources to affect our state in eternity. What does Jesus want me to do with my money? I must remember that my money is not my own; I am merely a manager. We are called to give not only ten percent, but to give sacrificially. Some are tempted to spend, some are tempted to hoard. But a third way to think about money is to use is as a steward. Also, take into consideration that I am going to die. We can't use money after that. If that is true, why don't we plan for four billion years from now? Our eternity will be impacted by what we do with money now. So this limited time to use this money should be used to develop friendships that will last forever. This is the trade of a lifetime!The manager was accused of wasting, but commended for being generous with his master's wealth. This won friendships. Christians can win friendships that will last forever! Use money to make them now.
