I am now in my 34th year as the pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, and as I have prayed about the future, I believe that 2009 will be a year of unprecedented opportunity for believers. On the one hand, 2009 will be a year in which the darkness gets much darker. But the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness neither understands the light, nor can it overcome it. I believe we will see the light of the Lord Jesus Christ shining brighter in 2009 than in any year since I was first licensed to preach: 1965. As Christendom continues to collapse, the possibility for true revival is before the Church. In revival the antithesis between the light and the darkness becomes radically pronounced, and the Holy Spirit draws multitudes of guilty, hopeless people to their only solution: cleansing from the guilt of their sins by the blood of Jesus and a new life through the power of his Holy Spirit. Incredible opportunities await us in 2009 as we see American society engulfed in yet more trouble. But regardless of what governments and investments do, the Lord Jesus Christ will still take care of his own and will bless his people with extraordinary provision and opportunity.
