“ Great Sermon! ” Though obviously now a little dated as this sermon was preached some years ago, it is still very relevant, and the trends have remained the same, and even worsened. Solid Bible based churches maybe need to set up their own bookshops, and have a good library system.

“ Good warning. ” The situation is the same in Romania. Until the revolution in 1989 we had no Christian books. But now the Christian bookstores are full with every kind of teaching. Publishers and bookstores who profess to be evangelical promote every kind of error. Most are not interested in sound teaching, but in what will sell well.

“ More Than Rounding Up The Usual Suspects ” Brother Cloud brings a message as timely in 2009 as it was when first delivered in 2001. Almost all the people he discusses are still enjoying shelf space in Christian bookstores and enormous popularity among Christian readers. One will not be surprised to hear Cloud criticize the writings of ecumenists like Billy Graham, charismatics like Jack Hayford or church growth gurus like Rick Warren and Bill Hybels. However, I did sit up and turn up the volume a notch when Cloud leveled his lance at the likes of Chuck Swindoll, Elisabeth Elliott and James Dobson. Cloud brings compelling evidence to the table that should convince discerning Christian readers to give a second look to those Christian writers assumed to be above suspicion. His critical assessment of C.S. Lewis is especially timely in light of the Narnia movies, which so many believers I know have embraced as a Christian alternative to Harry Potter. I appreciate David Cloud serving as a watchman and for sparking me to pray for greater discernment in these last days.

“ Timely message! ” Believers need to be warned about all of the garbage (i.e. Rick Warren) that one can now find in a Christian bookstore. Praise the Lord that He has raised up servants to warn God's true believers!

“ Thought Provoking ” This is a very interesting, thought provoking sermon from Brother Cloud. It appears from his other sermons that he has been given the gift of discernment about many issues confronting the church today. The popular health/wealth/psychology laced/easy living/easy Jesus/easy gospel message being sold wholesale by Christian bookstores is certainly cause for concern. Christians have been duped into thinking that the millions of dollars of merchandise sold in Christian bookstores is safe, sound doctrine. Much heresy exists on these shelves, though this message is rarely preached. I implore all seekers of the truth as it exists in Jesus Christ to pray for discernment in these trying times. May we judge all materials, whether labeled 'christian' or not, by the unalterable Word of God.
