The famous incident at the end of this chapter, the case of two women arguing before King Solomon over one living child, reflects a different approach by the king than he employed in the marriage alliance he engineered with the Egyptian Pharaoh at the beginning of the chapter. The difference was the result of the famous dream Solomon had at Gibeon in the middle of the chapter. There, he recognized the truth that he could not govern his kingdom apart from the wisdom that comes from above, the wisdom that would enable him to judge beneath the surface so that he could discern the difference between good and bad. It is the true wisdom that produces true humility, the wisdom that led Solomon to regard himself as a little child. This chapter proves the point that where there is no humility, there is no true wisdom nor knowledge of God.
