As we continue to consider Daniel's vision and how they correspond to historical events. It is a challenge to match what we know about history to this passage. Two aspects that we should consider in matching prophesy to historical events. The first is the bible is absolutely true and historical records are not. The historical records about Belshazzar, for instance, have changed significantly through further discoveries to match what was recorded in Scripture. Our inability to understand how they match can be because of a lack of information. The other thing to keep in mind is that God has a different perspective on what is important to record than what historians in rebellion to God think is important. We need to keep in mind that their perspectives might make it hard to match things. One thing that we can know from this passage is that God was punishing Israel for their transgressions. While a pagan king was attacking Jerusalem and the temple because they were resisting Christ, Christ was using them to punish a people who were transgressing against Him. The sovereignty of God is still being declared to Daniel in this vision.
