Colossians 3:10-11 is a transition between Paul's instruction to put off the old man's garments and to put on the new man's garments. Since the Christian has put off the old man (Adam) and has put on the new man (Christ), now he needs to put on the right clothes to match.
But the new man is not only the individual, it is also the church! The virtues that are to be put on, starting in verse 12, are to be exercised and practiced in the church. And God through Christ is creating new men who are then united into the new man, the church.
This helps to show the great importance of the church. The church is where God has appointed for us to be sanctified most. And it is in the church that God is most glorified.
In this sermon we answer 1. What is this old man/new man transition? 2. How does this idea of the "new man" relate to the individual Christian? 3. How does this idea of the "new man" relate corporately to the church?
