As a faithful and loving spiritual leader, the Apostle could not stand to see the churches turn toward legalism—Jesus plus something else. The Judaizers had crept in with another gospel teaching the churches to follow Jesus but they also needed to be circumcised and observe days in order to be saved. Paul confronted these ideas immediately and directly. He wrote of his fear of God, salvation, call into the ministry, revelation by Jesus Christ of the gospel, ministry apart from Jerusalem, fellowship with the Apostles and Jerusalem church, confrontation of Peter, the Cross-Centered Life, justification by faith, the imprisonment and tutelage of the law, and adoption as sons according to the promise. Paul had poured out his soul on behalf of the Galatian churches at their beginning and was pouring out his heart unto them again to turn away from empty shell of religion to a glorious and grace-filled relationship with Jesus. Today, we will look at Paul’s Passionate Plea to God’s Children. He speaks to them as a former idolater, faithful friend, and spiritual father. He wanted the Galatian believers to walk in the freedom in Christ rather than turn back into the slavery of living under the law.
