The outer tabernacle was an obstacle for the Jews. It kept them from God, and the sacrifices and offerings given could not cleanse their conscience because it was an external washing. Our conscience can be an obstacle for us, as well. If only we understood that the blood of Christ cleanses our conscience clean. This allows us to run to God, instead of running from Him.
