"...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." With these words, Paul defines and describes the true Christian, one in whom a fundamental change has taken place and in whom an incremental progress is occurring, as more and more of the life of Christ is revealed in us. The root of that fundamental newness is a new heart from God. By his power, old things pass away, and we should recognise that this is the case, not being carelessly or despairingly trapped by the past; by his power, a new life has been granted, by which we begin to live in accordance with our new identity in Christ.
