The questions posed in the book of Ecclesiastes highlight a continuous tension between life lived under the passing sun and life spent in cultivating the kingdom of the living Messiah. To those outside of the church, such investment in the kingdom of Christ often appears foolish – like casting bread seeds upon the water. However, the Lord calls His people to sow His word with obedience trusting upon the grace of Christ to bring forth a harvest. The sowing of the word of God is also a work of endurance taking much time and patience to produce lasting results. The faithful in Christ are to continue this work with the expectation that Jesus will be faithful to build up His church.
