Genesis 34 is a chapter of disaster for the people of God. God is not mentioned once. Jacob has not gotten his family back to Bethel as he had vowed. Everything is wrong with what goes on. However, God steps in chapter 35 and calls for Jacob to get to where he is supposed to be. Jacob challenges his family to repentance over their gods and then returns to offer sacrifice at Bethel. God does the same for us. We may make a mess of our life, but he graciously calls us to come back to where we should be at.
