Belshazzar was a spoiled man-child due to his mother's sheltering and receiving partial authority from his father. He was not "full" king in his own right. Thus, he lived in fear of death and the shadow of his fathers, including Nebuchadnezzar. He could not live up to expectations; yet, neither did he repent and turn to God. Parents as sinners raise sinful children and bear responsibility for their outcomes when they do not turn them to God's salvation.
