1 Peter 2:1-10 is a remarkable and tremendous declaration that sets out the true status and value of Jesus Christ to God. It does not matter what the world thinks of Him! He is the 'living stone' - rejected by men but chosen and precious to God! And the same goes for those who believe in Him - their value and status is not determined by either their own estimation or the world's judgement, but by God's redeeming action. And we, 'like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ' - and like our Lord, are 'chosen and precious to God.' Christ is now the Cornerstone of a redeemed humanity in whom the living God dwells and who live out their priestly calling before a watching world! When we are being buffeted and unsettled by life's bruising or feel tempted to retreat from the battle, we need to remember the darkness and futility out of which He has called us and the great calling that we have been given as His people.
