We are grateful for another opportunity to come to the Lord's Supper. This is the ordinance that He has appointed as the time when we would remember His atoning death on Calvary's cross. As we prepare our hearts to come to the Supper, I want to open up a text in which we see very clearly God's view of Christ's death. This should be very helpful, because we don't have to speculate about what we should think about Christ's death. We don't have to take an opinion poll in order to determine what the best view to adopt is according to everyone else. We have before us a statement about how God views it, and that is really all that matters. All we need to do is to embrace God's view as our own. I develop this under three simple headings, each of which comes directly from the text itself. In each case I will support my assertions from other biblical texts, and then I will explain exactly what I mean by them. I will close with a challenge to every listener. May the Lord give us accurate and clear views about Christ's death, so that we might know Him according to truth! And may He be pleased to bless this sermon to our hearts as we prepare to come to the Lord's Supper together.
