The beheading of John the Baptist gives us some lessons: 1.Regardless how godly the life of a saint, there can be problems and persecution. 2.The grave danger of worldly amusements. 3.The wicked influence that some may have over others with weak character. 4.What we should do when perplexed or discouraged- TELL IT TO JESUS 1.THE PATTERN OF TRUE PRAYER-JESUS Jesus is the model Christian. He is a model for our prayer life.He prayed often, some time all night and persistent, but always "thy will be done." 2. THE PRIORITY OF PRAYER Lk.18:1 Jesus was never too busy to pray. His life was filled with prayers.
3. THE PRIVACY OF TRUE PRAYER Mt.6:6 Many times Jesus would go alone to pray. True prayer and true mediation must be when we go apart from others that we might be with Christ alone. Vance Havener said, "If preachers will not go apart, they will come apart."
