As a result of our study of Colossians 3:5-11, we want to share some practical applications for the mortification of sin, adapted from John Owen's "The Mortification of Sin". 1)Trust in Christ. 2)Commit yourself to minute-by-minute sin killing. 3)Hate sin because Christ hates sin and died for it, not because it brings you discomfort or robs you of peace. 4)Center your battle on the cross. 5)Resolve to kill sin completely. 6)Don't be fooled by non-killing activities. 7)Realize the danger and power of sin. 8)Examine the birth of your sin so that you can kill it early. 9)Don't ignore the grace of conviction by saying, "Peace! Peace!" when God has not said it. 10)Constantly long for deliverance from the power of sin. 11)Think often on the majesty of God. 12)Walk by the Spirit. 13)Trust in Christ for the killing of your sin.
