We have related a specific example of an attack against children, in which they were tempted to turn against their parents and dishonor them. Christ promises complete destruction upon all who cause His little ones who have trusted in Him to stumble or to sin.
How often we read Christ's solemn promise of judgment and assume, incorrectly, that Jesus is so severe because such attacks will result in the loss of little ones to Satan. Surely if wicked men tempt away God's people into sin, and it leads to their destruction, those men will have blood on their hands, and that is why they will be judged.
But Jesus is teaching no such thing! On the contrary, Jesus promises wrath and destruction against those who lead His little ones astray, because He will surely save them anyway!
The wrath is not promised because wicked men succeed in stealing away Christ's precious ones by tempting them. The wrath is promised because they tried, and failed, to steal the Lord's people away from Him!
God has appointed angels to represent children who have trusted in Jesus before His throne, and He is ever mindful, and ever careful, for their welfare and safety. That's what makes it so dangerous to attack God's people, to try to woo them away from the Savior by tempting them into sin.
But no matter what wicked men try to do to destroy the Lord's children, to lead them astray, to tempt them away from the Savior, our Lord Jesus always seeks them out and finds them and brings them back where they belong in His arms with rejoicing!
He will accomplish the will of His Father that not a single one of those who trust in Jesus should be lost.
