Paul is on trial before the Jews. Whatever circumstances Paul is in, he is always under the sovereign will of God. And though he is imprisoned, the Word of God cannot be chained. Paul, in his defense, identifies himself with the Jews, that he was most zealous of all, even persecuting the Christians. But then he was transformed, because he had a personal encounter with the risen Lord Jesus. He was converted, and commissioned to go and preach the Gospel to everyone. Paul was delivered from this trial by a Gentile, because God had promised that he would go to Rome and preach before Caesar. Wherever Paul is, his decisions are based on the furtherance of the Gospel. He had a Gospel-intentionality in all that he did.
