This week we look at one part of Moses's blessing of the tribe of Joseph. Deut 33:17, The he tribe of Joseph is described as the sacrificial (based on Num 18:17 and others) firstborn of the Shor (ox of the herd, Bos Tausus) and then after the sacrifice "majesty is his" then he is described as the horns of the wild ox or Rem or in modern language the now extinct aurochs. The aurochs is a completely different animal than the Shor, it is wild, powerful, untamable, and sovereign in his realm. The prophesy by Moses is a powerful description of Jesus at his first and second coming and the difference between the two animals in Moses's blessing starkly illustrate this. It also reveals a Messiah figure from the line of Joseph which is echoed in other places in scripture.
