Lazarus, a friend of Jesus, had become very sick. Jesus only did what God the Father told Him. Even when Jesus knew that Lazarus was sick unto death, Jesus did not get up and go right away. There are times when we cry out to God and wonder why God does not show up and fix something. We might wonder what God is waiting for, however Jesus only does what the Father tells Him to. We should do the same. Jesus had to wait for Lazarus to die before He came. God loves to make it so that it is absolutely clear that He will receive glory. Jesus had to make clear to His disciples that Lazarus was dead as they were continually trying to get Him not to go out of fear. Although they were not together at the time, both Martha and Mary said the same thing to Jesus, that if Jesus had been there Lazarus would not have died. Jesus made it clear that He is the resurrection and that death has no hold on Him or those who believe. Sin is crazy and stupid and makes us believe that we are the masters of the Universe. Are we praying for our way and for us to be in charge? If so, we are acting in foolishness. Jesus did what the Father God told Him. We must trust Jesus. When Jesus wept, He was not putting on a show or pretending, He was deeply moved. Sometimes it gets smelly before God does a miracle. Even when a person receives new life in Christ, they are likely to still have some things that have bound them up. In order for Lazarus to get free from bondage, he was going to be exposed. In Biblical counseling Jesus wants us to get free. We may not understand God's plan, but He will receive glory in all that He does. Death is not the end. Jesus is greater than death.
