It is almost inconceivable for us to imagine that the Apostle Paul could have done something that would disqualify him from receiving eternal rewards. Yet Paul does not place that beyond the realm of possibility. In case the scenario of the Apostle Paul HIMSELF being dishonored and disqualified for sin was insufficient to cause the presumptuous, self-confident, carnal Corinthians to sit up and take notice, Paul reminds them of their spiritual predecessors, the Israelites, who, despite all their privileges, fell into idolatry, lust, sexual immorality, murmuring, complaining, etc. The Israelites may have thought, having been miraculously saved by the parting of the sea, "We are delivered from bondage and death! The worst is over. We are saved, and it will be smooth-sailing from here!" But in fact, they were only beginning a long perilous journey. With many of them, God was not well-pleased, for their bodies were strewn in the wilderness. A new Christian may say: "I'm delivered from bondage to sin, and from death. The worst is over. I'm saved, and it will be smooth-sailing from here!" But in fact, he is only beginning a long perilous journey. Do you think there is no way YOU can be disapproved, as the Israelites were? Do you think all the warnings of Scripture were intended for OTHERS? Over 60 times in Scripture we are told to TAKE HEED! Your faith may be strong, your doctrine so sound that you are assured you are in no danger of falling. "Let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." This message highlights 3 reasons why God so often warns His children to beware of falling. It was well-received by the Liberty flock.
