When the trials of the faith come, and they will come, they will come from those who hate the Name and true cause of Christ Jesus. They will come for the faithful and there will always be some caught in the crossfire, those who in refusing a side chose a side, and they chose the side of the oppressor. When Paul was going to his death, and as he waited in prison there were many who abandoned him and this hurt Paul, not because he was fragile or prideful but because Paul was concerned for the glory and honor of Christ and he hated betrayal of Christ represented in the betrayal of Christ's preachers. Yet even when men abandoned Paul there were still those who remained. There will always be then the faithful and the faithless. Which will you be? I pray you remain strong and that you do so by remembering that Christ is Judge of all the earth and that to chose safety on the worlds terms is to be at odds with Christ, but to seek comfort and safety in Christ's arms, though at enmity with the world, is to be truly safe.
