Substituting works for obedience is to go in the way of Cain. This is where most people are going to miss heaven. To suppose that a sincere desire to do good and help others constitutes righteousness before God while doing nothing about it is to deceive ourselves. The Scripture here In Matthew 25 makes this very clear. Those who heard what Jesus said to do and did NOT do it were sent away into everlasting punishment. For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. (Romans 2:13)
