The Philadelphian Church had Openness. The Philadelphian Church had Opportunities. The Philadelphian Church had Oppositions. The Church at Philadelphia had Optimism.
The Book of Revelation was written by the Apostle John. He was a prisoner of the Romans on the Island of Patmos because of his witness for Christ. In about 96 A.D. the Apostle John wrote down the book of Revelation. John was told to write down the Book of Revelation by the Lord Jesus and he was to send the book of Revelation to the 7 Churches in Asia Minor. John is about 92 years old and the year he wrote the book is thought to be around 96 AD.
The Seven Churches in Asia Minor received the whole book of Revelation and in Revelation chapters 2-3 we read the contents of 7 letters directed specifically to the 7 churches.
In Chapters 2-3 of Revelation Jesus describes the condition of the 7 churches at the time John wrote. Jesus Christ gave a description of the unique characteristics of each church.
The condition of the 7 churches in Asia Minor also reflects a Prophetical picture of the history of the Church from its beginnings in the days of the Apostles till the end of the Church age. The Church age ceases to exist at the Rapture.
If you look at the Church of Philadelphia it is a Church blessed by Jesus and it is a Church commended by Jesus.
As a Pastor I want a Church that is both blessed by Jesus and commended by Jesus.
