Sometimes we elevate characters in the Bible, but they are just like us with needs, passions, and desires. Even when you're obedient to the Word of God, needs will always arise. There are lots of needs in this chapter that are demanding on Elijah and are out of his control, but there is a supply ever flowing from the hand of the Lord.
God is readying and preparing His man in this this chapter for the next chapter by pruning and refining Him.
When needs start arising, you can know for sure that God is at work! God had prepared that brook way before Elijah even had a need. He is providing before we know we have a need! This is true in salvation also: He was slain before the foundation of the world. He died for your sins even before you knew you were a sinner!
What was Elijah's responsibility as these needs arose? To pray and to trust in God's Word, trust in God's will, and trust in God's ways.
Are you certain that God will meet your needs? Has God been faithful in your life up until this point to meet your needs?
