The church of our time needs to wake up. There are many hearers of the Word and few doers. Lots of agreement on what we should do, not so much action to follow it up. What sort of thing do I mean? It would be easy to come away and just realize we should be telling people about Jesus, which is certainly true, but there is more to it than that. The foundational issue is that many professing believers simply do not think they are called to be "super committed." They don't wake up in the morning and seek the Lord. They don't see all their resources as something that should be available to the Lord for Kingdom purposes. They hire other people for that. Thus the clergy/laity chasm. The idea that some are called to be more committed than others. Performers and spectators. We rightly criticize the prosperity gospel, but we need to realize that prosperity preachers wouldn't get anywhere if there weren't a multitude of professing believers who just don't understand the call to sacrifice. I don't have my work life, my financial life, my family life, my recreational life… It is all His life. It's all His stuff. The work, the finances, my family, it all belongs to Him. These are all simply things He has entrusted to us. What do we do with them?
