We have seen how Satan will do his utmost to fight the believer in the area of prayer. The rest of the armor is ineffectual unless God supplies us with the energy necessary to use it. Satan, knowing this, “goes for the jugular” and hurls everything in his arsenal at the believer who sets out to truly pray. If he cannot succeed in keeping us from the act of prayer itself, he has many proven ways of interrupting and distracting us. He can even hinder answers to pray from reaching us!
Paul gives some inspired practical advice about how to pray. If we follow these directions faithfully, we will repulse the Devil with the “whole armor of God.”
In verse 19, Paul gives a touching personal plea for prayer. “And for me that utterance may be given unto me…” As eminent a saint as he was, Paul still needed the prayers of even his children in the faith. So do we.
As we dress ourselves every morning, let's be reminded of the various parts of the believer's armor and make it a habit to consciously “put on the whole armor of God,” praying as we do that God will protect us from all evil.
