You and Your Offspring (Infant Baptism) God's dealings with His people and their children God's dealings with His people and their children is not unique. That is the pattern in the entire OT. From Adam, Noah (Gen. 6:18; 7:1; 9:9), Abraham (12:1-3, 7; 15:5, 18; 17:7), Lot (Gen. 19:12, 16), etc. we learn that God dealt with the entire family. • God viewed these children as HIS! • God graciously drew children to Himself in the OT! • God promised to pour out His Spirit on the Children of His people! How does God deal with children in the NC? Did God change the way He dealt with children in the NC? If not then some statements should suggest that or if He did, some statement should expressly state the change. But we find in the NT that the old is assumed in the new when it comes to the children. In fact, the NT is entirely consistent with the Old Covenant. Applications To the children: God has placed you in the covenant. You are obligated to Him because He has blessed you and set you apart for Himself. • You must personally believe; make the faith of your parents your own. • You must confess Him publicly and cannot be ashamed of Him. As Christ claimed you; confess Him. • Let the blessings you received turn into a vibrant faith. Do not let it turn into a curse! To the parents: Bring them up in the discipline and admonition of the Lord. • God's Word commands you to teach them. • How said for many Christian parents who focused their children on education, achievements, higher pedigrees, etc. and spent little time instructing them in the Lord To the church: Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of this child?
