The kingdoms of this earth war and rage, but God sits upon his throne, exercising dominion over all. The message of God's universal dominion was desperately needed when God's people were captives under foreign rule. The book of Daniel is written to encourage God's people that God is in control. Nothing they experience past, present, or future is outside God's providential rule. But Daniel writes even more. God's kingdom dominion is universal, and he will rescue his people and restore them to their kingdom. One like a Son of Man shall rise and receive an eternal kingdom at the end of days (cf. 7:13-14). The New Testament is clear that Jesus is the Son of Man who receives the kingdom from the Father (Matt. 26:64; Mark 14:62). This kingdom is the church's inheritance and will be enjoyed world without end (Matt. 25:34; Luke 1:33; Rev. 11:15). The best news is that God's kingdom rescue plan has already begun (Matt 12:28; 28:18; Col. 1:13-14).
