A suffering servant was not in the minds of the Jews. They overlooked Isaiah 53 for a Mighty King like David who would overthrow Rome. We have looked at His sufferings of false accusations, scourging, mockery, and crucifixion. When He cried out with a loud voice and declared Victory, most of his disciples were scattered, confused, bewildered, disappointed, and depressed. Perhaps, some were angry, fearful, and worried. What are we going to do? What is our purpose now? Life without the Messiah is empty. Zeal is as cold as the tomb of a dead man. Preaching is silenced in the grave. Hope. What hope? All hope seemed buried. This morning, we are living in a world where people are facing the same challenges. Life under the sun without God is as the Preacher said in Ecclesiastes 1:2, “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” There is an emptiness. If the story ended at the death and burial of Jesus, what hope would we have beyond the grave. This morning, I have good news for you as we consider “The Fullness of the Empty Tomb.” We will consider the following 1) The Finality of Death 2) The Last Opportunity to Honor the Dead 3) The Reality of Life Beyond the Grave.
