What bold words from a prisoner awaiting his execution: “…for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” 2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV) Notice that the Apostle Paul refers to whom he believes, not what he believes. Paul’s courage flowed from his intimate friendship with Jesus. His confidence came not from merely knowing the right truths about God, but from knowing God Himself. And so it is with us. When we’re fearful of our circumstances, or tempted toward timidity as Christians, it is our personal fellowship with Christ that allows us to stand firm. In this sermon, we’ll continue our study in 2 Timothy with “Courage and confidence in Christ.”
