There was not much light for the orphaned child as he sat in his own waste. He had become so used to these shocking conditions that they became normal. The day dawned however, when a couple came to visit. They wanted to take him out of that crushing misery. Over the months that it took to finalise the paperwork, a relationship developed. The day at long last dawned when he would be rescued permanently from that hell-hole and brought into a clean, healthy, happy environment where he would be loved and cared for. He would be lifted up to joys he had never experienced. Sadly, he had never known these wonders; they were outside of his experience. All he knew was his filthy, dark room. So when this couple came to take him away, it seemed a violation, not a kindness. There was nothing he could do. He now legally belonged to these new people. He fought and cried as he was carried away from this place of neglect, the place he had called home all his life. He had no concept of the joys that lay ahead of him. He had been adopted. In this sermon, Josh urges us to stop and appreciate the true wonders of God's adoption of miserable sinners as sons. No, we have not been dragged away from what we know and love, we have been powerfully brought into joy unspeakable.
