When you Think the Battle is Over! 1 Kings 20:1-43 Chapter 20 describes Two battles with Syria that took place on Israelite territory. The first battle was in Samaria, the capital of the Northern kingdom was taken by the Assyrians. The Second battle was fought in the city of Aphek, 3 miles east of the Sea of Galilee on the military road connected to Syria with Israel. In His grace, God gave wicked King Ahab two victories over the enemy. The first victory was to teach Ahab that the lord was the true God (v. 13.)The second Victory was to show the enemy that Jehovah was not weak and limited like the heathen idols (v.28). Instead of claiming complete victory and destroying Ben-hadad (v. 42), Ahab entered into a treaty with Him!When you think the battle is over, you may face your greatest danger and experience your greatest defeat.Over and over again God warns us not to underestimate the power of temptation ans sin and to always be on guard.Whether we like it or not, we are in a spiritual war until the day we die. During the second battle 100,000 foot soldiers are killed in battle. The rest of the Syrians flee to Aphek. They though they were safe & secure. They ended up being insecure as the wall fell and 27,000 more die.people today are putting their security for salvation in that which is insecure.
