Psalm 47 paints a picture of God as the Sovereign King who descends to defend His people and ascends victoriously to His throne to rule over the earthly kingdoms. -- Psalm 47 is also--and perhaps most importantly--a messianic psalm describing Christ's descent (humiliation), victory, ascension to the thrown to be crowned as King where He reigns and awaits His return (exaltation) for final victory over all other kingdoms. -- Mixed with Daniel's visions in Daniel 7 of earthly kingdoms devouring one another while God is on the throne and Christ is the King of His everlasting Kingdom of saints, we (like Daniel) can be set free from the increasing stress and worry over the ungodly kingdoms or our day and the seemingly crumbling foundations of our own society. -- God is on His throne. And Christ is King over a Kingdom that is not of this world and is greater than all other kingdoms. And as saints subdued by Christ, we have nothing to fear.
