How did the teachings of Jesus raise the bar of the standard of right when compared to the Law? What did Paul say he was found blameless for externally but was dead to rights internally? What pointed this out to him? How does the Word of God function like this for us?
Day 2: Read Mark 4:18-19, Col 3:5, Matt 6:24, Mark 10:17-25 and discuss: What three things did Jesus say would choke out the effects of the Word? How have these things affected your witness? Why is it impossible to serve two masters? Why was the rich young man unwilling to follow Jesus? How does covetousness hinder our devotion to Jesus?
Day 3: 2 Kings 5:23-27, Pro 1:18-19, Pro 13:22, Gal 1:8, Rom 6:23, and discuss: Why did Elisha put such a strong stipulation on receiving gifts associated with Naaman's recovery? How was this strong language mirrored by Paul? What danger do we bring onto our children by giving into covetousness?
