We live in a time when the cost of things is not a concern for most people. We have been spoiled by the prosperity and plenty of the past several decades and take for granted so many of the blessings we enjoy pertaining to earthly comforts and convenience. It has made us lazy, wasteful, overindulgent, and ungrateful, as well as feeling entitled to everything without having to suffer to get it by working or giving of ourselves in any way. This carries over into spiritual things, also. If we have grown accustomed to disregarding the cost of our earthly needs and pleasures, we will be very likely to disregard the cost of salvation and all the blessings that come with it. We must be reminded of the great cost our Savior paid for our souls, and also the great price that has been paid through the ages by the people of God for the spiritual blessings we are able to enjoy because of their sacrifice and faithfulness.
